About counseling services from Amsterdam Counseling Service ACS
Mental Health Care is changing rapidly in the Netherlands. In 2014, ‘Basis GGZ’ will be rolled out across the country. This means that Mental Health professionals like psychologists will be providing so-called ‘general psychological care’. In the new system, there will be an increased collaboration between GP’s, primary care psychology practitioners (Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners) in GP practices, and primary care psychologists, aiming to provide optimal psychological care.
Within the new system, Primary care psychology remains accessible for everyone. Amsterdam counseling service has short waiting times so you won’t have to wait long to see a psychologist. You can phone yourself to schedule a first appointment, or your GP can do it for you. Sometimes, after your first appointment it is agreed that your difficulties warrant further referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist in secondary care services. If you authorize us, we will inform your GP about this.
What are the credentials of the psychologists working at Amsterdam counseling services?
If your GP refers you to Amsterdam Counseling Service, you expect a high standard of service. All psychologists working at Amsterdam Counseling Service have university degrees in Psychology (Masters and Doctorate levels) and are registered as ‘GZ-psycholoog’ in the so called ‘BIG register’(similar to the British Health Professions Council register). One of our psychologists was trained as a Clinical Psychologists in the UK and worked for the NHS for seven years. Our psychologists are all member of the Netherlands Institute of Psychologists (NIP), the ‘Landelijke Vereniging Eerstelijnspsychologen’ (LVE) and/or member of the Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (VGCT). Our child psychologist also has a degree in Child Development. Several of our psychologists are trained in EMDR.
Who are the psychologists at Amsterdam counseling services?
Our practice started in 2007 as a collaboration between three psychologists; Peter Paul Mantjes, Nelleke Cloin and Marjan Kroon. Within a short timespan, our clients and referring GP’s became so enthusiastic about our services that we have now expanded to a team of nine psychologists. Two more psychologists in training are liaised with our service.
